Deadlock Bosses: Mid Boss Spawn and Rejuvenator

The Mid Boss is the only boss fight on the Deadlock map, and since Valve's May 22, 2026 patch it is alive from the first second of the match — no ten-minute timer, no trigger. It sits in a pit in the sewers under the center of the map with 13,000 base health, a regenerating shield and 35% debuff resistance, and it can only be damaged by players standing inside that pit. Kill it and your team gets 3,000 souls, two permanent stat buffs per player, and the Rejuvenator: a three-minute buff that revives each holder in place at full health after three seconds.

  • Spawn: already up when the match starts (official, 2026-05-22); respawns 7 minutes after its first death, 6 after the second, 5 after every death after that.
  • Pit rule: shots from outside the pit do nothing; the boss wakes up and beams the closest target the moment anyone walks in.
  • Rejuvenator: three heavy-melee claims per kill, one revive per player, three minutes on the clock.
  • Steal rule: either team can punch the crystal — the team that did not kill the Mid Boss can still take the buff.

When the Mid Boss spawns

Valve moved the spawn to the opening of the match in the Gameplay Update of May 22, 2026, in one line:

Official source: Gameplay Update - 05-22-2026 — Valve's patch note: "Midboss now starts spawned at the beginning of the game"

Before that change the boss came up at the ten-minute mark, which is why beginner material written before May 2026 still tells you to wait — IGN's guide, for one, still lists a Mid-Boss spawning at ten minutes. There is no trigger condition now: it is simply there when you load in, dormant, and stays there until someone enters its pit.

After the first kill the respawn schedule runs 7 minutes, then 6 minutes, then 5 minutes for the third and every later death — community figures from the community wiki's Midboss page, not a Valve-published table. The comeback is announced with a roar and a line from the Patron's Herald, and the timer is on your screen three ways: the Midboss icon fills up on the minimap, pressing Tab shows the exact minutes and seconds, and the in-world countdown appears near the pit when you are close to it. The Topbar timer and the in-world respawn timers both shipped in Valve's City Never Sleeps HUD pass — "You can now see when Haunt camps or Midboss will respawn when you are near their spawn area," per the official patch notes. The Haunt camps guide covers how those timers sit next to the camp ones.

While the boss is alive, a golden Rejuvenator symbol marks its location on the minimap, and the pit entrances on the Broadway are marked with the same sign — glowing when the boss is up. The lane and district map guide has the post-City-Never-Sleeps layout those signs sit in.

Mid Boss stats: HP, shield, bounty and resists

Numbers below are split by where they come from, because Valve publishes patch deltas and the community wiki publishes the current stat block — and only one of the two has ever been wrong.

Global announcement Roars at 50% health so both teams know it is dying (was 70%) Official, 2026-03-06

Official source: Gameplay Update - 03-06-2026 — Valve's patch notes: "Mid Boss base bounty increased from 2000 to 3000", "Mid Boss base HP increased from 11900 to 13000", "Mid Boss global announcement health threshold reduced from 70% to 50%", "Mid Boss now has 35% Debuff Resistance"

The 50% roar is the only information the game gives the enemy team: they do not see your health bar, they hear the announcement, and they know you are halfway through a fight that has a timer of its own.

How the fight actually works

The Midboss is dormant until a player enters its pit. The moment someone drops in, it wakes up and channels a bright purple beam of weapon damage at the closest target, switching to whoever is nearest if several players stand inside. Players outside the pit cannot damage it at all — the boss is completely invulnerable to attacks from above the lip of the arena. The same pit rule governs the Patron at the end of the match, which is why both fights are close-range brawls rather than chip damage from range.

Under the health bar sits the shield, and the shield is the real fight: 35 HP at the start, regenerating 5 HP per minute of match time, and it must be burned down before any damage lands on the 13,000 health underneath. The 35% debuff resistance — official since March 6, 2026 — shortens every stun, slow and heal reduction you throw at it, so anti-heal itemization buys less value here than it does against heroes. The community stat block also lists 15% bullet resistance and zero spirit resistance, which is an argument for spirit damage, though neither figure has appeared in a Valve patch note.

Do not open the Mid Boss with a half-coordinated team

The pit is a kill box: the boss beams your closest player while the enemy team can hear the fight and arrive through the same entrances you used. The beginner guide puts it bluntly — three players who cannot aim yet should not start it. You do not need six people, but you need enough burst to beat the shield's regeneration before the enemy rotation shows up.

Whether you can take it is a gear question as much as a roster question: souls decide what you can afford before you walk in, and the souls economy guide covers the math behind your damage and sustain.

The Rejuvenator: what the buff actually does

When the Mid Boss dies, a green crystal spawns above the pit and descends for 6 seconds — untargetable while it falls, and impossible to claim until it touches the ground. A musical stinger plays for both teams, so nobody misses the moment. (The 6-second descent is official: "Rejuv drop duration reduced from 7s to 6s," March 6, 2026.)

Once it lands, any player in the match can claim it with a heavy melee attack — including the enemy team. Each heavy melee hit grants one Rejuvenator Credit to that player's team, up to three credits per Mid Boss kill, and the first player to punch the crystal is healed to full health on the spot. Three credits, six players: the buff is a shared resource, and each player can consume only one.

The credit itself is a three-minute team-wide buff (cut down from four minutes in the June 30, 2026 patch) that does one thing: when you die, you revive in place after 3 seconds with 100% of your health, lose the buff, and spend your team's remaining credits by one. The buff ends early if all three credits are consumed first. A 30-second expiry warning fires before the timer runs out, the top bar shows the remaining credits, and teammates who still hold a credit are highlighted under their net worth.

Three details that decide fights:

  • The revive is not a kill. A player who dies holding a credit does not appear as a kill in the HUD and grants the killer zero souls — but on-kill effects still trigger, from Shiv's Killing Blow cooldown reset to stack ultimates. The credited player is effectively dead during the 3-second countdown: no ally presence effects, no contesting the Unstable Rift.
  • The steal is real. Because either team can punch the crystal, a losing team that loses the Mid Boss fight can still send one player back in and take a credit. The community wiki states the rule plainly: "Either team may take rejuvenator credits regardless of which team kills the Midboss."
  • Old guides are stale on this one. Until November 21, 2025, the Rejuvenator also granted +10% max health, +15% fire rate and +15% spirit damage amp. The current buff grants none of that — if a page sells you on those three stats, it predates the rework.
Read the top bar before you plan the next fight

The Rejuvenator credits are a countdown, not a permanent advantage. With one credit left and 20 seconds on the clock, your team plays differently than with three minutes up. The HUD shows both numbers — the credit count in the top bar and the timer from the Rejuvenator Indicator Valve added in the City Never Sleeps HUD pass.

The other half of the payout: souls and permanent buffs

The crystal is not the whole reward. The killing team also splits 3,000 souls at base — growing by 50 per minute of match time — and every player on that team receives two permanent buffs: the same random stat tomes that Golden Statues drop, chosen from ten possible stats (fire rate, max ammo, cooldown reduction, weapon damage, max health, spirit power, bullet resist, spirit resist, move speed, ability range), with three power levels depending on when in the match you collect them — level 1 at 0–10 minutes, level 2 after 10, level 3 after 30. They persist through death for the rest of the game.

That is the full accounting: souls, two permanent stat buffs per player, and up to three full-health in-place revives. The souls and buff half is guaranteed the moment the boss dies; the revive half is only yours if your team reaches the crystal before the other one does. If you are still learning where this fits in the objective chain — Guardians first, Walkers next, then this — start with the beginner's first matches guide, and use the meta guide to check which of these numbers has survived the latest patch.

One last note on the boss itself: Valve has said the Midboss is due a rework. In the City Never Sleeps announcement of September 29, 2026, the studio listed "Midboss (both the model and the layout to a degree), Guardians and Walkers" among things it considers "important but just haven't gotten to yet."

The numbers on this page describe the current boss; expect the model, the arena or both to change in a coming update.

FAQ

When does the Mid Boss spawn in Deadlock? From the beginning of the match. Valve's May 22, 2026 patch changed it to "starts spawned at the beginning of the game" — before that it spawned at ten minutes. After each death it returns in 7 minutes, then 6, then 5 for all later respawns.

What does the Rejuvenator buff do? It gives your team up to three Rejuvenation Credits that last three minutes. Each player holding a credit revives in place with full health 3 seconds after dying, spends one credit, and loses the buff. When all credits are used or the three minutes expire, the buff is gone for everyone.

Can the enemy team steal our Rejuvenator? Yes. After the 6-second descent, anyone can heavy-melee the crystal, and each hit credits the puncher's own team — up to three. The team that killed the Mid Boss has no priority claim on it.

Why is the Mid Boss taking no damage? You are hitting it from outside the pit. It is invulnerable to attacks from anywhere but inside its own arena, and it stays dormant until a player enters. The same rule applies to the Patron.

Is the Mid Boss worth it every time? The payout — 3,000+ souls, two permanent buffs per player, three in-place revives — is the strongest single-objective prize on the map, but the pit exposes you to the enemy rotation and the shield fight takes real time. Late-game, the revives are what close matches; early-game, an uncoordinated attempt feeds the enemy both the souls and the buff.

Does the Rejuvenator still give extra health and fire rate? Not since November 21, 2025. The +10% max health, +15% fire rate and +15% spirit damage amp bonuses were removed; only the revive mechanic remains.
